Tornado hits Acuna, Mexico, May 25, 2015

Monday, May 25 was not your typical Monday. First of all it was Memorial Day and we had a houseful of family visiting from out of town. The rains have been plentiful in Del Rio this year. We have not ran the sprinklers in over a month, yet we our lawn is lush which and dark green.

This day began with heavy thunderstorms with a magnificent lightning show. The smell of coffee began to permeate the house, and breakfast was about to begin, when I was asked from a friend via text if we had power on at our house, since they had not. I said we did and we invited them over for coffee and breakfast. As we finished up around 9 am, I received notice if I seen the pictures of the tornado damage in Acuna, Mexico which is 6 miles to the south of us. I had not, so we started an internet search and the pictures were very alarming.

I sent out an alert to our church family about collecting supplies, and the race was on to see if a trip over the border was possible in order of us to help where ever we could. A group of 10 of us set out armed with cases of water and cases of ready to eat meals. We left my wife back at the church to collect supplies that would be trickling in, since we are a collection point for the community. We were able to giveaway supplies to the families hardest hit. Here are a few pictures that I took while over there.

13 people have been confirmed dead, and many more hundreds injured. Reports are still coming in and there are missing people. As I was there i was interviewed by a Mexican news station. I was able to speak with a few of those who lost everything and they conveyed to me that the tornado lasted a brief 10 seconds. I later found out that it was only 6 seconds.

Please pray for the community of Acuna and the sister city here in Del Rio, Texas. Pray that we are able to minister in Christ’s name and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Stay in the Light, 1 John 1:7,
